Teen's Friends Rush Him To Hospital After Shooting In Ocean County: Police

A teen boy was injured in a late-night shooting in Ocean County, authorities said.

Lakewood police said the Toms River Police Department reported a 16-year-old boy was brought to Community Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his leg just after 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19. The teen is expected to survive his injuries.

Investigators said the shooting happened near Davina Court in Lakewood. Neighbors told police they heard something that sounded like gunshots about 30 minutes earlier.

The victim told police he and several other people were in a vehicle going to meet another person when shots were fired. The teen's friends brought him to the hospital for treatment.
